Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
